Pete, mortal name Craig, is a character in Housepets! He is a Celestial being who takes the form of a blue gryphon. He was first introduced in The Grove, and his mortal form was introduced in Temple Crashers 2: Epilogue Crashers.

He was the primary antagonist of the Cosmic Game story-line that dominated the comic for years and was responsible for transforming the human Joel Robinson into the dog known as King.

Original Site Biography[]

A magical superbeing in the form of a gryphon. He’s sort of a jerk. When he first appeared to Grape in a dream, he painted himself up as being kind and generous and benevolent, but he hasn’t turned out to be much of that at all.

Physical Appearance[]

Celestial[]

As Pete's celestial form is a gryphon he has the upper body of an eagle and the lower half of a lion. His upper body is covered in blue feathers, while his beak, claws and eyes are bright yellow. He has a "casual" form where he wears T-shirts that change with his emotions, looking more like a typical gamer.

Mortal[]

Pete's, now renamed Craig, mortal form is a fox kit. His fur is mainly light brown, with a darker patch on his muzzle, ears, hands and tail. Like his sister Draig, he has a mark on his muzzle on the left side of his nose similar to Karishad.

Personality[]

When Pete first appeared to Peanut and Grape, he seemed to be a benevolent celestial-being; however this turned out to be a facade and his true personality is actually much less pleasant. Most of Pete's actions revolve around the Cosmic Game, a D&D style duel between him and Spirit Dragon.

Pete is, in his own words, a jerk. He cares little for the people who he involves in the game and is only interested in using them to further his own goals. He transformed the human Joel Robinson into a dog to satisfy his needs for an avatar, and treated him poorly as his owner--denying him human rights and treating him as the animal he had been turned into. He continued to antagonize King for years until the game ended.

Despite this Pete is very crafty and manipulative; he initially convinced Henry Milton that he would help equalize human-animal society in exchange for moving his mana temple to Babylon Gardens, a promise he knew he could never keep. He later promised the same thing to Keene Milton when he was confronted in his temple. He was able to manipulate King into summoning him by informing him he would forfeit the game and King would return to being human during his wedding; and he was able to predict that Bailey's devotion to her husband would lead her to take his place, thus granting him an avatar.

Later he was incarnated as a mortal fox kit, and is clearly annoyed over the loss of his powers and influence. As a kit he is shown to be very bratty and petulant; often loudly "demanding" others to do his bidding (to no avail.)

General Information[]

Pete is an immortal celestial being taking the form of a gryphon. He originally lived in Heaven under the rule of Bahamut prior to his banishment but is able to freely travel through dimensions of his own will. As a celestial, he is subjective to time and many thousands of years can pass in seconds.

Pete and Spirit Dragon were once part of the same gaming group that would lead parties to fight off demons, but they got into an argument over who would lead their party and decided to settle it over a game of Universes & Unrealities; a game that would take centuries to complete, with the loser having to spend a lifetime in a mortal body. Pete would spawn his temple into a vast desert for the mana bonus, but Spirit Dragon cursed it and left him trapped inside and unable to leave until someone activated the mana pool. This would leave Pete unable to accrue any followers and could only project dreams, giving Spirit Dragon a 5000 year head start. Pete was able to trick billionaire Henry Milton into moving his temple from the desert to a more populated wooded area of his estate in Babylon Gardens by promising that he would help him achieve his dream of animal equality, although Pete never intended to follow through on this promise.

Pete first appeared to Grape through a dream, presenting himself as a benevolent figure. Originally regarded as just a dream and nothing more Pete made his return when Zach unwittingly freed him from the temple; this would lead the woodland animals to hail Zach as the "Opener of Ways." Pete originally planned to trick Grape into becoming his avatar for the game through her dream, but Spirit Dragon's avatar; Tarot, kept it from happening, also keeping Pete from acquiring Peanut as an avatar as well. Due to the restriction that an avatar could only be a cat or a dog Pete decided to transform the arrested Joel Robinson into a dog with plans to make him his new avatar. After turning Joel into King he moved to Babylon Gardens disguised as a human named Jasper and passing as King's owner, while treating King poorly as a dog.

However Pete was soon confronted by Spirit Dragon and the game's moderator, Great Kitsune, forcing him to lose King as an avatar and disappear from Babylon Gardens. After being abandoned by Pete, King was placed into the Equal Chance Program and moved into the Wolf House.

Pete later tried to steal King's fate so that he could control him, but he was stopped by Cerberus and the fate fell to Earth and took the form of a digital watch. He was then taken to court over these actions and was sentenced to 100,000 years of solitary confinement by Bahamut, however, as a god he has control over his own subjective time-- as such the hundred thousand years passed in seconds.

Keene would lead a party into the temple in order to confront Pete over his failure to keep his promise to his father. Sabrina explains Pete cannot use his full power for his goal because of the Cosmic Game. Pete would agree to help Keene if he became his minion and gave Keene a bit of mana. However the Game ended and Pete was reincarnated before he could do anything towards helping Keene.

Pete intentionally left King alone so King would slowly become accustomed to being a dog. During King's wedding to Bailey, Pete arrived and informed King that he would forfeit the game in a year's time and King would turn back into a human. A year after King's wedding, King finally summoned Pete to accept his fate, but Pete counted on Bailey taking his place instead and she became Pete's avatar. Pete transported her to the deserts of Australia to fight against Dragon and her avatars Tarot and Sabrina. Eventually King intervened, and using the Cosmic Lantern managed to get both parties to stop fighting and forfeit the game. Kitsune summoned Pete and Spirit Dragon and told the two if they would not convince both parties to continue they would lose. Pete tried in vain to force King to continue fighting by threatening to smash his watch, but ultimately King stood up for himself and Pete lost jointly with Spirit Dragon. As they both were sent to be re-incarnated, Pete worried about mortality changing him, but Spirit Dragon promised to protect him, revealing the two are siblings.

While not directly appearing in Temple Crashers 2, he had an indirect role in which he left a message for Thomas Milton, who had been turned into a camel by the temple's treasure. He explained that in his original deal with Henry, he had promised that "no human hands" would touch the treasure, so the coins turn humans into animals. A coin would later be used to transform Herman Steward into a badger, who would then use it to transform Marion and Lois.

After the temple collapses, it was revealed that Pete and Spirit Dragon were incarnated as fox kits, with his mortal name being Craig (and Spirit Dragon's name being Draig.) He retained his memories of being immortal, which their mother Kix believes is just their imaginations. He later participates in his first Imaginate! production of Jurassic Park, where he plays Dennis Nedry. After it is over he "demands" to play more, as his character was killed off halfway through but Kix and Kitsune pick him up to take him and Draig home.

He and Draig were accidentally left behind on Earth after Kitsune places a quarantine to stop a demon insurrection. Eventually Kix found out the truth about her kits (and after beating up Kitsune) he asks if she hates them. Kix assures him that she still loves them regardless of their true identities.

Trivia[]

  • Pete may not be Pete's actual name, as he attempted to tell Peanut his real name in Sylvan Glen, but abdicated when Peanut insisted he couldn't pronounce it. This obscure fact was later brought up in Dream Logic.
  • In Heaven's not Enough, part 3, his shirt changes while losing in final confrontation. It firstly is black, then it has mad face on it, then it says "Quid est?", later "Boss HP", and finally last words of Roy Batty from Blade Runner.
