Peanut Butter Sandwich is one of the main protagonists of Housepets!, along with his pet-sister Grape. He and Grape were the first characters introduced in the first arc of the comic Imaginate!.

Being one of the two original main characters, Peanut has had the second most appearances in the series (with Grape having the most.)

Original Site Biography[]

What’s that? You want to play?  Peanut wants to play!  Peanut is ultra-enthusiastic with most everything he does, which mostly consists of playing ALL KINDS of games.  On top of that, he’s an extraordinarily fast reader (though whether he’s a fast learner is up for debate).

He creates his own comic called The Adventures of Spot (superdog) (see below) which is a pastiche of superhero comics and movies he’s somewhat familiar with, and on occasion will be about just anything that strikes his fancy.  He has a great deal of anxiety about storytelling and gets overexcited about most everything related to it.

Peanut lives with Grape, and has a crush on her, despite the fact that she’s a cat. Recognizing this hasn’t stopped him from waking her up from her nap while in a panic, which he does quite often.  He also has a girlfriend named Tarot who came to him under extremely odd circumstances.  He is also okay with this.

Physical Appearance[]

Peanut is a light-brown Canadian Pointer mixed-breed, with a cream muzzle and underbelly. His ears are dark-brown and flop over, and his fluffy tail is also dark-brown. He wears a red collar with a white bone tag, and has sky blue eyes.

Peanut also sometimes carries around a gray satchel, in which he carries "Notebooks, Pencils, Markers, Books, Video games, Snax, etc."

Personality[]

Peanut is usually portrayed as energetic and happy. He has shown to be innocent and somewhat slow on the uptake at times, yet he has a kind and caring personality. Peanut can be naive, though not too gullible, but commonly relies on Grape to explain something for him. He has slightly matured through the run of the comic becoming more self-reliable in knowledge and is able to cope with problems better than before, though he still retains a sense of naïvety. Tarot has mentioned his "blunt honesty" is usually his best quality. Amazed at Peanut's positive and unflappable nature, Sabrina observes "Nothing fazes you, does it?"

He is also an abnormally fast and avid reader, though it's odd considering his intelligence; he is seen reading science-fiction books and became a fast fan of the Pridelands series after being introduced to it by Grape. Peanut also loves acting out plays, musicals, and movie plots with Grape and their pals but more often than not they end up as total messes.

Rick Griffin has said ". . . I think he is a super genius, he is just not particularly aware of how much he knows."

General Information[]

Peanut, along with his pet sister Grape were the first characters to appear in the comic. They are owned by Earl Sandwich and his wife Jill Sandwich (who they refer to as their parents.) Peanut had been in the care of the Sandwich family since he was a puppy; he was the one who first encountered Grape at the pet shelter and he helped convince Earl to get her instead of another dog. Peanut and Grape were the focus for the majority of the early days of the comic; only rarely appearing without one another, often playing Imaginate! games together, and Peanut constantly frustrating Grape by waking her from her naps. Peanut also began a new comic called The Adventures of Spot (Superdog), which would go on to feature in many future comics. Peanut was also originally a member of the Good Ol' Dogs Club before he was kicked out for being a "cat-lover," until he was eventually reinstated; however he hasn't been shown to attend their meetings since.

When Peanut first discovered Grape was actually a girl, he developed a secret crush on her, which was exacerbated by the events of Down At The Farm, though he failed to act on his feelings. As Grape began dating local cat Maxwell, a mysterious Pomeranian with psychic powers named Tarot appeared at his door and became his girlfriend: something that he neither seemed to question nor mind. During this time he also met wolf Miles and introduced him to the neighborhood, along with the rest of his Wolf Pack.

Sometime later, when Zach went missing Grape took Peanut to the forest grove she saw in her dreams during The Grove. They soon found Pete's temple, and Zach in it. Tarot contacted Peanut through telepathy, urging him to make sure that Grape doesn't free Pete, however he was distracted by how cool it was that Tarot could speak telepathically, and Zach ended up unintentionally freeing Pete. After that, both he and Grape were constantly on look out for Pete, until they finally gave up in It's A Wonderful Dog's Life.

Peanut's crush on Grape wouldn't be resolved for years until Imaginate, Too!, where during one of their games Grape invited Max over without Peanut's input, causing him to feel left out and jealous and resorting to inviting Tarot over as well. Things came to a head when Grape and Max switch to playing Pridelands and Peanut brings Spot into the mix. Grape and Peanut get into a fight which leads to Peanut storming off and ending their game early. Grape later apologizes to Peanut for ignoring him, and admits she’s known about his crush on her for a while, as he was terrible at hiding it (she also found the picture they took of Fido and Sabrina colored over with their fur colors). While Grape admits she has no romantic feelings towards him, as well as Peanut admitting he also can’t stop thinking about Tarot, Grape asserts that they are already more than best friends and they will always continue being "mushy" together. While their relationship remains platonic, they do occassionally show more affection for one another (even agreeing to go on a date at one point.)

Peanut soon learns that Tarot's powers are linked to a celestial dragon, eventually meeting her (though he didn't grasp the fact they were two separate entities.) Spirit Dragon soon formed her own crush on Peanut, and despite the fact that she was the one who sent Tarot to become Peanut's girlfriend in the first place, Spirit Dragon would continually try to take Peanut for herself until he eventually turned her down in THE GALLIFRAX PROTOCOL.

Peanut generally took on a lesser role during the events of The Cosmic Game. When Tarot left to fight against Pete, she left Peanut with the Cosmic Lantern, and told him to give it to Joel when he showed up and casually awaited Tarot's return in I Need A Vacation. In Wolf's Clothing he became an honorary wolf.

In the Housepets 5000 BC saga, Peanut meets an ancient canine named Satau and is transported back to the past after trying to send him home. He appeals the tribe by telling them of a story long ago, when wars took place in the stars. Later he helps rescue Grape after she has been kidnapped by Ptah, and eventually everyone is returned home safely. After that, he helps Grape puppy-sit King and Bailey's children (though he becomes paranoid that they lost one of them.)

Peanut soon would join a LARP (which was a front by Keene Milton to have people reach the bottom of the temple) event along with Grape, Res, Max and his deceased cousin Rufus to explore the temple, wearing paper bags like in their Imaginate! games. In order to compensate for the group's unpreparedness, Peanut uses his paper bag to become "The Puzzle Master" in order to bypass many of the temple's challenges. He also confronts Tarot over the fact she had disappeared on him before. However, all parties manage to escape the temple before it collapses with the help of Dallas. He, along with Great Kitsune, also comfort Tarot after she expresses disappointment at herself for not being able to handle the situation.

Afterward, while trapped at a hot spring, Peanut and Tarot further discuss their relationship: while Tarot wants Peanut to be romantic, Peanut also encourages Tarot to show off her weird side more, and that he loves her no matter what. Later, he and Grape start their own day care at their house without their parents knowledge, watching over Olive, Ace, Rook, Pueblo, Craig and Draig, where they Imaginate Jurassic Park.
